Junior rollers success.

This year, Gippsland Rangers Roller Derby launched its along awaited Junior Roller’s program, this is a junior version of skate fit with a more broken down program that is more structured towards the younger skaters. The month-long trial started at the beginning of November (2022) and ran every Sunday for four consecutive Sundays. Registrations filled up fast and a waiting list was made for those still interested once enrolment capacity was met.

Junior Rollers is open to all school aged children up until the age of 16 then they can attend Skate Fit on a Monday night at Churchill or Thursday night at Meeniyan.

The first week was full of excitement, anticipation, Nerves and more excitement. The youth all went through a safety lesson with their helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards and mouth guards on before putting on their roller skates, then it was time to have some fun while learning proper posture to keep their balance and learning how to fall without injuring themselves.

Over the course of the next few weeks the youth learnt lots of new roller skating skills that were implemented in too games, this helps the youth enjoy their new roller skating skill while lowering the nerves (works for us adults as well lol)

By the end of the four weeks, the youth that had never roller-skated before can now skate unassisted stop and fall correctly, jump, single and double knee taps, started to learn how to skate backwards and more, but the most important thing was the amount of fun they all had while learning new roller skating skills and making new friends.

Junior rollers will be back next year, so keep an eye out on our social pages.
